There are many people who decide to cycle as a way to get from one place to another. Many of these reasons are not at all related with how you like to travel. Some people have decided to take up cycling as a way to exercise. Others go cycling because they compete in it as a sport. Another group of individuals take pleasure in a simple, relaxed ride through their neighborhood. Regardless of why you are taking up cycling, you are going to have to consider a variety of things when choosing the bicycle that is a perfect fit for you. Here are some hints to help you make your choice.
We’d be lying if we tried to tell you that fashion shouldn’t play into your choice. The color we like best, or the style we like least, all influence our choices. When choosing your bike you shouldn't ignore them. If your bike is only for looks, put style elements and fashion choices as your ultimate decision-makers. Evaluating your choices according to safety and comfort will be the best first step. Then, when safety and comfort have been secured, choose your favorites according to their visual appearance. What kind of handlebars you want on your bike is also a big choice. Not all handlebars are the same. Traditional handlebars that just go straight out are good for maneuvering over difficult terrain. These handlebars will also distribute your weight over a big area. If you plan to use your bike for racing you will likely want to go with a different type of handlebar, such a handlebar is thinner and allows you to lean over the bike while you ride, this makes you more streamlined and allows you to cycle faster. For those of us who only plan to use our bikes sporadically, you may wish to go with a handlebar style that is comfortable and yet easily stored away.
You also want to make sure you leave some room between you and the crossbar of your bike. When selecting a bike make sure you move the seat my explanation up slightly, to around a few inches above the height of the crossbar. You should be able to still rest your feet flat on the floor. Different bikes will need differing clearance amounts. A good example is a touring bike, with these bikes you will only need around 1" difference. For mountain bikes you will require somewhere around 3 inches. There are many different factors to take into account when finding the right bicycle. Is this a bike you are going to be riding every single day or is it a bike you are only going to ride every now and them? Which height is most comfortable for you? Are you a person who would rather your feet be flat on the ground when you are sitting or would you rather have a little room between your feet and the ground? You will want to answer all of these important questions, as you make your bicycle selection.
